Why These Features Matter
• The Sighthound Cut: Unlike standard dog coats, these are contoured with a curved "arch" to accommodate the deep chests and tucked-up waists of sighthounds. The "longer back" design ensures the coat covers the large muscle groups in their hindquarters.
• High Neck & Lead Slot: Sighthounds have long, elegant necks that lose heat quickly. A high neck acts like a snood, while the lead slot allows you to attach a leash to a collar underneath without compromising the windproofing.
• Split Front: Because sighthounds have a huge "stride length" (they stretch their front legs out far when walking or sprinting), a split front prevents the fabric from rubbing or restricting their shoulders.
• Chest Panel & Velcro: This "wrap-around" style is much better than "step-in" coats, which can be difficult for long-legged dogs to navigate. It also provides vital warmth to the underbelly. * Elastics for stability; ensures coat follows the dog's movement as they run, preventing the fabric from sliding side-to-side across the narrow hips. (remove if not required)Care & Safety Tips
• Washing: When machine washing quilted waterproof gear, it is usually best to use a cool cycle (30°C) and avoid fabric softeners, as softeners can break down the waterproof coating over time.
• Visibility: The reflective strip is a major plus for sighthounds, as they are often walked at dawn or dusk and can be very fast if they catch a scent.
Quick Measuring Guide Reminder
Since sighthounds vary wildly in size (from tiny Italian Greyhounds to giant Galgos), the "Back Length" is your most important metric:
• Start: Base of the neck (where the neck joins the body).
• Finish: Base of the tail.
• Posture: Ensure the dog is standing square; if they are sitting or lying down, the measurement will be inaccurate. There are a wide variety of colours and patterns available for you to choose from.
